We recently had a chance to catch up with Alexandra, one of our Grade 11/12 Summer Program volunteers:
Who are you?
I’m Alexandra, an outdoor enthusiast with an adventurous spirit. In my spare time, when I’m not hiking or travelling the world to do some trekking, I am usually volunteering. As an Outward Bound alumna, I understand the importance and the impact the TAH program has on youth and the community.
How did you get introduced to TAH?
I’ve known about TAH for quite a while. So much so that I can’t remember how I first heard about it. I always wanted to volunteer at TAH but the timing was never right until this past summer.
What kinds of activities did you do with the students?
When we weren’t chatting and getting to know each other, we were doing fun team-building exercises, stand-up paddle boarding, mountain biking, ultimate Frisbee, touch football, to name just a few!
Overall, how was your volunteer experience?
I had a wonderful experience and was honoured to be part of it. I was amazed at the persistence and positive attitude of the students. In stand-up paddle boarding, for example, some students fell in the water a few times but they didn’t let that stop them from having a good time. In fact, these same students said they loved it and would do it again! It was great getting to know the students and see the changes in them in a matter of days.
Would you volunteer for TAH again?
Most definitely! It truly is a gift to see the students grow in the program, and I think the staff at TAH are simply amazing.
Alexandra, thank you so much for giving your time and talent to our program this summer!
