Playful, adventurous, and relational, Liam is passionate about doing right by the world and building a community. As Director of Shared Practice, Liam ensures to support the youth and uses his communication skills to bring people together in a coordinated and structured way.

Aspiring to be a science teacher in the early years of his impressive and diverse career, Liam found himself wanting to work with youth and families with substance-use issues after working on sailing tall ship for a summer camp for kids.  Whilst pursuing his Environmental Science degree, Liam worked on a sailing tall ship for a summer camp for kids and he then realized he wanted to work with youth and care for people and therefore worked for a substance use treatment center for youth and families for a few years as a youth worker. After completing graduate school, Liam trained as councilor for substance use-treatment and became a councilor in Nanaimo and eventually found his way to Take a Hike.

Outside of work, Liam enjoys white water kayaking, hanging out with his friends in his delightful community in Ladysmith, carpentry, and working on other creative projects. Liam loves Ladysmith as its his happy place and loves the island and his community. Ask Liam about programs on the island, how long it takes to tune a traditional Irish banjo, dad jokes and puns.

(…nobody knows how long it takes to tune a banjo.. they are notorious for being out of tune all the time…)
