Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities Provides Crucial Support To Youth

Jumpstart provides support with two grants to Take a Hike Foundation

For immediate release – As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, strong relationships and connectiveness to nature and the outdoors is critical in creating positive impact on the mental health of youth in our communities.

Take a Hike empowers youth who experience vulnerability to change the trajectory of their lives with a full-time mental health and emotional well-being program embedded in an alternate education classroom. Take a Hike engages youth with intensive, continuous clinical counselling, outdoor experiential learning, and community. In Take a Hike, youth build strong relationships and gain the skills and resilience they need to graduate high school and achieve success however they define it.

In the Take a Hike program, 3 out of 4 youth reported improved:

  • Feelings of belonging and safety in Take a Hike

  • Satisfaction with life and feelings of hope

  • Closeness with their peers and a good friend to talk to

  • Gains in mental health and well-being

Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities understands the importance of Take a Hike’s impact on the lives of youth and has generously supported Take a Hike through the Jumpstart Sport Relief Fund to continue providing adventure-based learning to youth within their programs and to encourage getting outside and building strong relationships with their peers and nature.

“Being connected with nature has such a positive impact on mental health and we see this with the youth in our program as they get outside to play, learn, and build resilience. Thanks to Jumpstart, we can ensure that adventure-based learning continues to make an impact in the lives of youth” - Gordon Matchett, Take a Hike CEO.
